The overtime and payroll settings pages within Nowsta allow you to adjust import payroll settings such as your work week start date, overtime rules, break rules, and more.

It is strongly recommend you review and adjust the overtime and payroll settings in your account before generating any payroll report within Nowsta. It is also recommended you review all payroll reports to ensure there are no errors prior to running payroll.

How to adjust payroll settings

To start, go to the settings page of your Nowsta account and select Payroll.

On this page, you can optionally adjust the following settings:

Minimum Hours
When minimum hours count as hours worked, shifts under the minimum will have time extended to the minimum, which applies towards overtime. When they don't count as hours worked, shifts under the minimum will have bonus pay applied in payroll files, and the difference in hours will not apply towards overtime.

Minimum hours can be set up by default per position via the Positions page of your account, or per department in the Departments page.

Break Time Policy
If breaks are paid, they will be counted towards overtime calculations. If not, any time spent on break will be deducted from a shift's total actual hours.

How to adjust Overtime Rules

To adjust overtime settings, go to the settings page and select Overtime Rules.

On this page, the following settings can be adjusted:

Work Week
Determine the start day and time for your work week. This work week will determine when the clock starts running on weekly overtime.

Daily Overtime and Double Daily Overtime
Set the threshold for daily overtime and double daily overtime. If left blank, daily overtime and double daily overtime will not apply.

Seventh consecutive day overtime
When enabled, on the seventh consecutive workday in a worker's week, overtime rules change: All hours worked before that day's Daily Overtime threshold are billed at Overtime rates, and any hours beyond that threshold are billed as Double Overtime.

Spread of hours
When enabled, workers who clock in to their first shift and clock out of their last shift beyond a 10 hour interval, regardless of the total amount of hours worked, are awarded a single hour of additional pay at a configurable rate.

Overtime Calculation Method
Select how you want to calculate overtime rates for workers with multiple payrates in a single week: based on the shift that incurs overtime, the blend of the worker's rates that week, or the worker's maximum rate that week.
